I can't see any signs or pathways to 'immigration' or exit. In Europe this isn't usually an issue at all, (you just pass back through the immigration gate) but in South Korea (ICN) it was pretty complicated. Since I live in Tokyo, I'm curious to know how this is dealt with here in Japan. Is there a norm on this issue around the world? I know it doesn't exist in the US as their is no immigration checkpoint at all upon leaving the country.
ok. so what I mean is that after you pass through the immigration checkpoint when departing, is there any way to return from the airside area to the land side area? I know it's not what a 'typical' traveler does, but there are many legitimate reasons as to why someone would want to do this. I'm curious, because I don't want to have to take lots of time to get something like this worked out if I am ever in this situation.

Departure terminal- Baggage screening- Check in at the concerned airline counter- Security check- Immigration- departure lounge- Departure Gate- Checking Boarding pass- Boarding
