Baby Reins - An option or a necessity?
Baby Reins and Harnesses are a great way of keeping your toddler safe when they are out of their buggies. But they also allow them independence and freedom to explore, keeping them close at the same time.
Every parent at some point, may have experienced that heart-stopping moment when their toddler wriggles free from their grasp, or disappears during that brief moment of lack of concentration and out into the road or into the crowds of a busy shopping centre. It is an unavoidable occurrence for parent and child but thankfully most of the time, results in nothing more than raised blood pressure and a quick telling-off.
Situations such as these, of course, prompt the high sales of products such as Wrist Links (parent and toddler can be joined together at the wrist), Harnesses and Baby Reins (where toddler has his/her hands free, but is held by parent via a strap attached to toddlers body), or the new ?LittleLife Bag? (toddler wears his/her rucksack filled with toys etc and parent holds an attached strap to keep the toddler at a safe distance).
Some parents may have the opinion that these various types of Baby Reins may restrict the toddler, or that they are for 'lazy parents' that cannot keep their toddlers under control. Others, may consider them invaluable to their childs? safety, an absolute godsend that they simply couldn't do without.
If you are teaching your toddler about road safety, or maybe not to talk to strangers, they can be a very useful tool. Although, there are many types to choose from and not all toddlers will like everything that is on offer.
Some toddlers prefer not to be attached at the wrist, via a Wrist Link to the parent, as this means they only have one free hand to explore.
Others, may not like to be attached via harness and baby reins across the body, as they may find it uncomfortable.
My toddlers personal preference is the ?LittleLife Bag?, as they can keep all their toys and snacks inside for when they want them and they have the freedom to explore at a safe distance, without feeling restricted.
It is of course, all down to personal preference for both parent AND toddler, to avoid those embarrassing tantrums in public places!
My advice would be, if you do choose to use one of these options, the earlier Baby Reins are introduced into your toddlers life, the better, as they won't be as likely to fight it later!
