Things To Keep In Mind When Buying Baby Bedding Crib Sets

There is seemingly an almost endless array of baby bedding and baby bedding sets on the market these days that includes sets that are for boys, sets for girls and others that can be used for either a boy or a girl.

For modern parents to be this can make the decision of what to buy seem difficult. You can buy each item separately but if you really think about it, it can be the most expensive way to go. Just as there are ‘bed-in-a-bag’ sets for us grown ups they have them for your nursery too.

An adult bed in a bag set usually comprises of a sheet, pillow cases, a comforter, shams, and skirts. Sets for your baby are almost the same. If you are thinking about having your bedding co-ordinate with the theme of your nursery, then purchasing a set is the best way to go. You can then purchase single sheets so that you can mix and match your bedding.

When you are shopping you should note that the bedding will be separated by fabric, colors, and styles. Your preferences will most likely have a bearing on your purchase. Do you want cotton, flannel, fleece, or silk? Many parents prefer the cotton or flannel fabric because they are less expensive than silk sheets and are easier to clean. Having said that however, silk is a natural organic material that is easily machine washable.

The benefit of buying your bedding in co-ordinated sets is that everything already matches. You won’t be mixing fabrics, colors, or themes. With everything in one bag it's very easy to change the atmosphere of the room by the baby bedding sets you purchase.

Ideally you should choose bedding to suit the gender of your baby. While you wouldn’t want to, for example, saturate your son’s room in pink, it can be ok to use soft blues in a little girl's room. You will find that most manufacturers are knowledgeable about current thinking regarding gender and what is thought to be acceptable or not. They tend to know what customers want. You most likely won’t have any trouble finding what you want.

Generally accepted themes for boys rooms include airplanes, trucks, or fire engines. Sports is another theme to look at for boys, or you could even consider a camouflage theme. They are most often designed in bright colors - reds, blues, greens, and oranges.

Decor for girls could include ballerinas, faeries, Barbie, princess, butterflies, or flowers. Girl’s bedding generally comes in softer colors such as pink, yellow, mauve, blue, and teal among others. Baby girl bedding sets are not limited to the above mentioned themes.

Non-gender related themes for bedding include animals, the solar system, favorite characters such as Barney, the Smurfs, Winnie the Pooh and others. You also have the choice of having your crib bedding custom made. Of course, there is always a chance that you might not find just the right design you are looking for. If this is the case you can have someone make you bedding with your exact pattern. If you sew you can create your own bedding sets for your baby. There are even materials in gold and silver to use for your child’s bedding so they can sleep in luxurious surroundings.

Also keep in mind that infant crib bedding doesn’t just refer to sheets. You can get baby bedding sets in a bag as mentioned earlier. You will find a sheet, blanket, and a baby quilt in most sets. If you want to buy separate pieces you can still do that. Most stores both online and your local store have single pieces as well as bedding sets.

So as you can see getting baby bedding sets can be a demanding task. Keep your finances in mind as well as your choices. You can create a theme in your baby’s room with the types of bedding you use. You can use character bedding but be aware of the fact that kids often outgrow certain characters and as your child grows you will in all probability have to change your baby nursery decor.

Frequently Asked Questions...

I have questions about making a baby blanket...? Please help :) ?

Today I got cute Winnie the Pooh fabric from Michael's to make a baby blanket for my boyfriends sisters baby shower; I got two 24 inch x 1 yd pieces.

I was sort of aiming to make it a 1yd x 1yd no-sew blanket where you cut and tie the edges, but apparently the guy couldn't cut a square like that, so...

*What are my options as to how I combine those two pieces into one baby blanket? (I do have a Singer sewing machine if necessary)
*Should I wash the fleece before I start making the blanket?

Answer:

How did you wind up with 24" fleece? This is usually 54" wide.

You need to have the top and bottom pieces the same size.

If the 24" is a type-o, then you need to lay the pieces (wrong sides together) on a table and trim to 36" x 36".

Here is a video that is easy to follow - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=krtXzSQ8FzQ&feature=related There are more on the sidebar.

Lightly hand wash and air dry before giving as a gift. This will remove any loose fuzz - fleece does not shrink, but will melt if exposed to high heat.
